GM, TelePresence position description
and responsibilities
The successful candidate will bring the leadership, vision, business acumen, strong interpersonal skills and technological expertise required to lead the TelePresence Business Unit. Reporting to Cisco’s VP & GM of its Emerging Markets Technology Group, the person will be expected to manage the entire operation of the TelePresence Systems Business Unit, including all functional departments, business strategy, business development and tactical implementation of the new technology. As the top executive of the Business Unit, the Vice President and General Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of TelePresence and will manage its growth and successful adoption by the marketplace. In that capacity, the Vice President and General Manager will be expected to work closely with Cisco’s VP & GM of its Emerging Markets Technology Group and other Cisco senior executives to craft strategy, launch and then rapidly scale the growth of the TelePresence solution.
Success in this position will be measured by developing and implementing successful business and product strategies and roadmap which will create and define the marketplace for this breakthrough technology. The goal is to ensure that our client continues to be successfully positioned as the worldwide thought, market and technology leader in this large and strategic business for Cisco.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide the overall strategy and direction for the introduction and subsequent growth of the TelePresence solution. Visionary, Evangelist, Technologist.
- As the voice and face of the TelePresence Business Unit, effectively communicate the value proposition of the technology to customers.
- Anticipate and resolve any scalability issues due to the rapid growth of the TelePresence Business Unit, ensuring the right balance between business processes and product innovation.
- Assume full ownership for each of the functional areas within the TelePresence Business Unit; Marketing, Product Development, Engineering, etc.
- Recruit, mentor and coach the management team.
- Establish an organizational climate conducive to maximizing employee potential and productivity and retention of key personnel; ensure an infrastructure is in place that motivates rewards and compensates employees in a manner consistent with individual and group achievement.
- Represent the TelePresence Business Unit in important external business relationships and communications with key stakeholders including major customers, strategic partners, government, industry, community and others so that the organization's image is reflected in the most positive manner and where such contacts are critical to the achievement of major objectives.
Education and Experience
- Excellent operational skills coupled with strategic vision.
- General management experience with demonstrated P&L experience with full operational responsibility. Experience with a development environment.
- Our candidate must also demonstrate a history of utilizing strong interpersonal and influencing skills, superior management skills, entrepreneurial attitude, and pro-active leadership style, combined with excellent communication skills.
- Proven track record launching new communications products and in research and analysis of new opportunities for product enhancement. Has “crossed the chasm” with a significant business, and taken advantage of adjacent opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience rapidly scaling a company in a rapid and high-growth market.
- Deep foundational technology background within IP Networking, Voice (including VOIP), and Video technologies desired.
- Demonstrated understanding of the ODM/JDM model and outsourced/offshore manufacturing.
- Education: BS or equivalent with MBA preferred. Engineering background ideal.
